- Abstract
- Sports are seen as a part of today’s society and are founded on the norms and moral codes we live by. The purpose of this paper was through interviews, the socialization theory and earlier research analyze and describe the possibility of sport as an integration arena. To strengthen my thesis three questions were formalized and answered giving the main purpose greater strength and validity. My conclusion was that sports can be seen as a useful and helpful integration arena for male immigrants. This is partly because in this arena there is an understanding, acceptance and a mutual respect for each other’s values, ethnicities and backgrounds. Other than that, as mentioned earlier, sports are a part of today’s society based on the moral codes of the community. Therefore those who practice it evidently get more socialized with these codes and become more integrated socially than they were before. In addition to this, their social network expands their Swedish language skills and understanding for the Swedish community improves which makes the integration a lot easier. If the integration taking place in the sport arena can take place in other arenas is tough hard to say. (Less)
