- Abstract (Swedish)
- The aim for this report is to present an industrial
design master thesis carried out by Micael Palmgren
at Lunds University. The report describes, not only the
end result of the project, but also the path along the
line to the final result. The master thesis have developed
and visualized a unique concept for a new motorboat
for tomorrow, called Gränö 750 ME. The reader
will be taken through the design process and decisions
made along the project.

The results gathered from the research phase during
the project concluded that the target group doesn’t own
a boat today but still loves the sea. The lack of money,
time and lack of space is the three major reasons why
they haven’t bought a boat yet. The study have investigated
their daily needs and desires together with the
current environment debate for finding clues to my
solution.
The final result became a boat/service solution adapted
to work together to create unique solution for the boat
owner of tomorrow. The boat is electric and powered
by batteries. The service part is a rental system
designed to be as easy as renting a canoe. To cut costs
the boat is modular, the drive unit (the hull) can be
The design concept let more people a chance to get out
to sea in a merciful way towards Mother Nature. While
saving money for both user and rental service provider.
In short, the work contributes with ideas and thoughts
in finding a solution for the future of boating.
Since the release of “Gränö 750 ME” it has been
exhibited three times and published in several blogs
and magazines worldwide. For more information visit:
