The essay introduces with an historical overview of Iran from the constitutional revolution in 1906 to the aftermath of the Islamic revolution in 1979. My next sub-heading explains from a theoretical and legal approach the definition of women’s rights based on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). The last headings will interpret the concept of Islamic and secular feminism and the women’s movement in today’s Iran.
My conclusion will be that the women’s rights in Iran is moving towards a change which makes the Islamic Republic to find itself under a pressure and direction they have no control over. (Less)
