- With a feminist post colonial perspective, in assistance of a discourse analysis inspired by Michel Foucault, a critical analysis has been conducted in order to find out the existential premise for statements about sport on an international multi-sport level, especially within the parameters of olympism and the olympic movement. The analysis has been made by critically examining documents like the Olympic Charter and statements from other major international multi-sport competitions and the UN-document on Adopting Resolution on ”Sport as Means to Promote Development. - With a feminist post colonial perspective, in assistance of a discourse analysis inspired by Michel Foucault, a critical analysis has been conducted in order to find out the existential premise for statements about sport on an international multi-sport level, especially within the parameters of olympism and the olympic movement. The analysis has been made by critically examining documents like the Olympic Charter and statements from other major international multi-sport competitions and the UN-document on Adopting Resolution on ”Sport as Means to Promote Development. For the purpose to reveal the material effect of the discursive borders that limit the statements concerning sport, single sports like wrestling, muaythai and MMA, has also been addressed.
In short, the result of the analysis show that statements about sport on an international level, is heavily restricted, by universalism, its ability to service human kind and promote peace and development, as well as the importance of referring to the olympic movement. These restrictions are in fact, as utopian as they may seem, indeed strategies to reproduce colonial structures and western imperial diffusion. (Less)
