Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to reach a greater understanding of the factors that can promote or prohibit return to work after a sick leave due to stress-related illness. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten individuals who had undergone treatment at Alnarps Rehabiliteringsträdgård, a rehabilitation program for people suffering from stress-related problems. The data was analyzed by use of thematic analysis and twelve themes were identified. The main conclusions were that a high degree of control over the work situation and the rehabilitation process, social support from someone who has influence over the rehabilitation and interventions aimed at improving the ability of self-care and establishing boundaries, could promote return... The main conclusions were that a high degree of control over the work situation and the rehabilitation process, social support from someone who has influence over the rehabilitation and interventions aimed at improving the ability of self-care and establishing boundaries, could promote return to work. A high degree of residual psychological, physical and cognitive complaints, lack of support from people involved in the rehabilitation process, lack of the possibility to return to an adjusted work situation and difficulties finding a new job were factors that were found to prohibit return to work. Finally, the importance of preventive measures is highlighted. The results are discussed in relation to their implications for interventions and future research in the area of rehabilitation for individuals suffering from stress-related illness. (Less)
