The purpose of this study was to investigate how young immigrant woman see and describe their everyday life and find out if the life as a newly arrived immigrant is as problem filled as the previous research indicate. The study was based on observations of and interviews with young women in the age between 15 and 20 who have all come to Sweden in the last two years. The purpose of this study was to investigate how young immigrant woman see and describe their everyday life and find out if the life as a newly arrived immigrant is as problem filled as the previous research indicate. The study was based on observations of and interviews with young women in the age between 15 and 20 who have all come to Sweden in the last two years. The analysis is based on a social constructionist perspective on gender. The study show that the young women in the interviews describe their everyday life in a typically gender female way? The young women spent time after school at home doing chores like helping their mother with dinner, doing dishes or cleaning. For all of the girls schoolwork took up most of their free time and little or no time was spent on leisure activity. (Less)
