- School counselors' professional role from a professional perspective
In today´s society, it is proven that the numbers of children who suffer from a general feeling of unwellness has increased. To support these children, there is a clear need for experts within our schools. It is imperative to have school counselors within the organization. As a school counselor it is often a requirement to work without consultation or support as there is a clear difference between school teachers and counselors. At present there are no requirements for schools to employ school counselors but new legislation will be effect full from 1st July 2011. This legislation requires all schools need to have a school counselor.

At present there are no requirements for schools to employ school counselors but new legislation will be effect full from 1st July 2011. This legislation requires all schools need to have a school counselor.
The purpose of this dissertation was to examine how school counselors and teachers perceive the role of the school counselors from a professional perspective. To perform our study we used a semi structured qualitative method. We have conducted interviews with three school counselors and three teachers. Even though you cannot generalize from the results, it gives an insight into how the counselors apprehend their professional role and the teachers view. All of the interviewed teachers had a positive view on the schools welfare work. Two of the interviewed counselors felt alone in their professional role. You can connect this loneliness to three possible factors, such as work experience, who determines the school welfare officer´s assignments and how the cooperation with the school nurse is working.
