Abstract
The aim of the study was to take a closer look at the thoughts of a group of adolescent students concerning drug abuse and whether they think it is something one can find a way out of or not. The main questions are:
- How are their thoughts about use and misuse of drugs?
- Do they believe that a person with a drug abuse problem can quit?
- How do they think it is done and what factors may facilitate or complicate?
The study was carried through by questionnaires handed out to 105 students in a school in Sweden. The questionnaires consisted of both questions with fixed alternatives for answers and open questions, to make sure not to limit the respondents but let them share their thoughts in their own words. The study was carried through by questionnaires handed out to 105 students in a school in Sweden. The questionnaires consisted of both questions with fixed alternatives for answers and open questions, to make sure not to limit the respondents but let them share their thoughts in their own words. The analysis of the results was based on Labeling Theory (Ted Goldberg’s version) and the perspective developed by Aaron Antonovsky, SOC (Sense Of Coherence). The results show that a large part of the respondents believe there is a difference between use and abuse of drugs. They put a lot of emphasis on the importance of having the support of people (mainly family and friends) in both the process of quitting and to make a person take the initiative to ask for help. One’s own personality and free will were also essential factors according to the respondents. (Less)
