- Abstract
- This report is a part of the educational programme of Fire Protection Engineering at Lund University. The purpose of the report is to evaluate the fire safety of Vadstena Castle from an egress perspective. Thus the
structural stability or property damage is not taken into consideration. Vadstena Castle is a tourist attraction that can host a large amount of people during special events. The approach is to evaluate the personal safety in case of a fire by comparing the time for egress to the time for critical conditions caused by a fire. In order to estimate the hazard of a fire, simulations are done in CFAST by using design fires. The egress is simulated in Simulex based on existing conditions and restrictions of the building. Conclusions made from the evaluation show that a safe egress can not be accomplished at all times and the fire safety of the building is not satisfactory. A number of measures are proposed that when implemented will improve the personal safety at Vadstena Castle. (Less)
