- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to present and examine the views of counselors in primary care and division mangers of home help services on two issues: depression treatment to elderly people and the need of counselors in eldercare. A qualitative method was utilized to interview three counselors and two division managers in various locations around Skane, South of Sweden. The methodology was supported by a theoretical

help services are in need of regular supervision regarding their own work.
The study is also highlighting the reality that elderly people's access to psychological treatment for depression is not satisfactory. This is not helped by the national rehabilitation guarantee which results in persons older than 67 years being excluded from Cognitive Behavior Therapy, a recognized and evidence based intervention for people with depression. This study concludes by recommending that counselors employed by the services could provide the supervision support that is needed by the service staff. From the literature review it is also clear that
more research is required on this important issue. (Less)
