Burmas förlorade skatter
(2011) MRSG20 20111Human Rights Studies
- Abstract
- This essay is about the fundamental paradox that surrounds the trade of natural resources from developing countries. The essay will focus on the gemstone trade from Burma.
How is it possible that a country can be so rich in natural resources but so poor in terms of human capital, welfare and development. Is there a nexus between the amount of a country’s natural resources and development, a nexus that could be described as nothing less then a curse? This essay wants to show how the so called “resource curse” and the trade in gemstone affects ordinary people in Burma. The essay concludes that the result of this trade is nothing less than pain and misery for the majority of the people.
