Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the debate on a local and a national level about the needs of a computer and internet in the economical national standard in Sweden. I also intended to examine and reflect how the national standard relates to the development in society. The study is based on a qualitative method and therefore I interviewed three local politicians in Helsingborg and analyzed documents from the Swedish government. To be able to analyze the information a theory is at hand. In this particular study a needs theory is used.

Some of the results show that the issue is not properly discussed on a local or national level. And when it is discussed there are two sides of the issue, namely one positive and one negative. The positive side wants to introduce internet and computers to the national standard because the needs changes in the society and the negative side does not want to introduce it because of economical issues. Almost the same results can be shown in the question about how the national standard relate to the development in society. However the results show that most of the politicians, locals and nationals, agree that the national standard does not keep up with the development in society. (Less)
