"Så enkelt är det inte" - En kvalitativ studie av styrning inom Stadium

Hösten 2008 introducerades Stadiums medarbetare i verksamhetens nya "formel för framgång", E3. Konceptet bestod då av värdeorden Energi, Enkelt och Etta, med vilka medarbetarna uppmanades att skapa Energi genom att göra arbetet Enkelt och på så sätt bli Etta. I denna uppsats vill jag titta närmare på hur styrning genom reglerad frihet kan gå till, och jag har för detta syfte valt att titta närmare på Stadium Sverige och konceptet E3.
Min problemformulering är: Hur kan ett organisationskoncept användas för att styra medarbetarnas mentalitet?
Utgångspunkt tas i Foucaults begrepp governmentality för att förstå både själva styrningen och medarbetarnas självstyrning som sker i organisationen.

Min problemformulering är: Hur kan ett organisationskoncept användas för att styra medarbetarnas mentalitet?
Utgångspunkt tas i Foucaults begrepp governmentality för att förstå både själva styrningen och medarbetarnas självstyrning som sker i organisationen.
Metodologiskt har jag analyserat de informationsfilmer som Stadium använt för att introducera E3 konceptet. Till detta har jag kopplat intervjuer med medlemmar från ledningsgruppen och ett urval av butikschefer från två olika regioner i Sverige.
Analysen av mitt empiriska material visar tydligt på hur ledningen utövat styrning. Strävan har varit att få medarbetarna att internalisera E3 och ta ansvar för att själva styra över metoderna för att skapa Energi, Enkelhet och Evig förbättring i sitt arbete (to conduct oneself). Vidare har det uppstått konflikter mellan olika definitioner av E3 och ledningen har själva brustit i att leva upp till konceptet, vilket kan ha inverkat på den genomslagskraft som konceptet fått.
Den slutsats jag drar är att kontextuella faktorer kan spela en avgörande roll för hur ett organisationskoncept kan användas för styrning. En otydlighet i organisationskulturen ger en svag referensram för självstyrning, och svårigheter att implementera ett koncept som i sig själv är öppet för tolkning. (Less)

The concept consisted at this time of the values Energy, Simplicity and Number One, to which employees were encouraged to create Energy by making the work Simpler and thus become Number One. In this paper I look at how control by regulating freedom can be performed, and I have for this purpose decided to look more closely at the Stadium, Sweden and the concept of E3.
My research question is: How can a organizational concept be used to control employees' mentality?

The concerns was to get employees to internalize the E3 and take responsibility for self-governance over the means of acheiving Energy, Simplicity and Eternal improvement in their work (to conduct oneself). Furthermore, there have been conflicts between different definitions of E3 and the management has itself failed to live up to the concept, which may have influenced the impact of the concept.
The conclusion is that contextual factors can play a crucial role in how an organizational concept can be used for control. A lack of clarity in the organizational culture provides a weak frame of reference for self-governance, and difficulties to implement a concept that is itself open to interpretation. (Less)
