Abstract
The IS and IT of organizations are not only a part of the environmental problems of the world, but can be part of the solution as well. Green IS and IT can transform an organization, allowing it to improve its environmental performance. To influence an organization to adopt Green IS and IT, one has to convince its decision makers at some point and should therefore understand what influences them. Therefore we want to investigate what kinds of factors actually have an influence on them when it comes to deciding whether to invest in Green IS and IT initiatives or not. We also want to see how these factors are prioritized by the decision makers, and if there are any conflicts between them. To do this we have interviewed several organizations... (More)

We also want to see how these factors are prioritized by the decision makers, and if there are any conflicts between them. To do this we have interviewed several organizations involved in Green IS and IT initiatives. Our study shows that no single factor determines the outcome of a decision on Green IS and IT, but that several play a role at the same time. Financial and ethical factors are the ones with the highest priority, and quick solutions are preferred to build credibility. Conflicts between factors are avoided by choosing initiatives where financial and ethical factors are aligned, and anchoring decisions from above. (Less)
