The aim of this study is to get an understanding of six social workers view of a possible reorganization of the swedish substanse abuse and addication treatment. This is as a result of a suggestion from the government to shift the responsibility for substance abuse and addiction treatments from the social services to the health care. Through six semi-structured interviews data was collected and analysed to get an understanding of the social workers view of the suggested reorganization, their possibilities to have any influence or give any input in the process as well as their view of how the competence of the social worker would be utalized after a reorganization.
The results showed that none of the social workers really saw the reorganization as something positive or executable. They could see that a reorganization would have negative consequenses for the individuals receiving treatment as well as the quality of the treatment. They all felt that they had minimal possibilities to give any input or have any influence in the process of the reorganization and feared that the competence of the social worker concering the psychosocial aspects of addiction and substance abuse would not be utilized in a more medical-focused treatment.
