Qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted with three participants - with different backgrounds, experience and education - working with Equine Assisted Therapy. Also an interview with a social worker was included in the study. The interviews were analyzed using new institutional theory; particularly the concepts of institutional isomorphism, trendsetting within organizational fields and risk aversion. They were utilized to explain why some methods and therapies are accepted and included in certain organizational fields and others vanish after a while. Furthermore, this paper argues that one of the biggest obstacles to practice treatment using horses is the lack of economic support, lack of evidence and knowledge about the treatment. (Less)
