Abstract
In Malmö today there is a situation, which is represented by a high rate of organized crime. Due to that situation there have been a large number of killings in the city, often associated with organized crime. These killings have lead to a negative debate about Malmö. By using newspaper articles from Malmö´s leading newspaper Sydsvenskan. I gathered information to analyze with process tracing and discourse analysis. Then by using the theories about securitization I was able analyze the discourse and how it’s connected to security and securitization by using the ideas presented by the Copenhagen School. After the analysis I was able to make a conclusion regarding the matter and connect this conclusion to my theory and to Malmö´s situation. The result of my analysis is that the discourse about Malmö in fact is negative and that it does not always correspond with the actual situation. There is a certain difference between the discourse and the real situation. (Less)
