Social hållbarhet – en definition utifrån Malmös perspektiv: En textanalys av Malmö stads definition av social hållbarhet

Abstract
This study explores Malmö's definition of social sustainability. Social sustainability still lacks a universal definition, creating a wide margin of interpretation and free space to act or not to act. The concept has grown as a topic on the political agenda and the City of Malmö has in recent years launched major projects to influence the social sustainability in a positive direction. Among other things, "Commission for a socially sustainable Malmö" has taken shape. Its purpose is to, through scientific research, work out how the city should go about making the best possible way to reach a long-term socially sustainable city. This study explores Malmö's definition of social sustainability. Social sustainability still lacks a universal definition, creating a wide margin of interpretation and free space to act or not to act. The concept has grown as a topic on the political agenda and the City of Malmö has in recent years launched major projects to influence the social sustainability in a positive direction. Among other things, "Commission for a socially sustainable Malmö" has taken shape. Its purpose is to, through scientific research, work out how the city should go about making the best possible way to reach a long-term socially sustainable city. By reviewing official documents from the City of Malmö this study will show how the city of Malmö themselves choose to define social sustainability. Health and equality is the largest global factors for social sustainability according to Malmö. Health affects our immediate survival and studies show that equality in society affect health. Malmö also includes knowledge as a significant determinant of health and equality. Furthermore, this study compares Malmö with nine of Sweden's major cities to show different interpretations of social sustainability. The comparison shows that Malmö has treated the subject social sustainability in a greater extent than the other nine cities. (Less)
