- Abstract
- The aim of this paper was to investigate which norms staff members hold regarding sexuality and personal relationships for disabled people living in sheltered housing (serviceboenden). The social framework was analyzed using concepts including normalizing ideology and deviance theory. We used a semi structured interview model to explore the staff’s views on the categories sexuality, personal relationships, kinship as well as background information on their career history and the accommodations they service. Over the course of our research we discovered respondents’ frames clustered around four norms: Firstly, the respondents perceived the client’s sexuality as something personal, natural and private. Secondly, homosexuality is accepted. Thirdly, respondents regarded the sexuality and relationships of their clients as no other than their own. Finally, most interviewees wish not to interfere with their client’s relationships and sexuality. (Less)
