- Abstract
- Lean- production have for some decades been a standing feature in the private sector. In recent years has the use of the method gained recognition also in the public sector where civic organizations want to achieve the huge effective gains promised by the Lean-literature.
Research has show that Lean-implementation on public organizations can have positive outcomes for the workplace as a whole. Hence, what the research has overlooked are the employees´ experience in the process of change and what they experience of the Lean-method. This thesis approach is to contribute to existing research on the employee’s perspective.

Research has show that Lean-implementation on public organizations can have positive outcomes for the workplace as a whole. The method used is focus group interviews performed on three different organizations which have been selected on account on both their contrasting levels of administrative work tasks and because of their different time stages in their Lean-process.
The results vary, hence the most distinct results are revealed in relation to the two Lean-concepts participation and standardization, these shows to affect the employees most positive, while the implementation phase, and the hardships in understanding Lean-theory demonstrates most negative feelings.
The evaluation shows that of the three organizations are the employees most positive towards the Lean-method where it has been at work the longest, here is also the understanding of it best. The employees in the organization with least administrative work tasks are the most negative towards Lean.
It has also been made clear that a lot of the employees feel a higher grade of stress during the implementation of Lean.
The results are to be seen as tentative therefore further longitudinal research is called for. (Less)
