Abstract
This report contains a study of the effects of a special connection in the side of hollow core concrete elements. The connection is today used when the joists are supposed to contribute to the global stability. The study is based on the question of how the connections influence the deformation and the loadbearing capacity of the hollow core concrete elements. This study is made for the two smallest HD elements in the series, HD/F 120/20 and HD/F 120/27.
The calculations are made for a real example, on a joist in a dwelling house, in
Vällingby and the analysis is performed with the program FEM-Design Plate.
The study was made by calculations of the main tension that then were
compared to the tensile strength of the concrete.

The calculations are made for a real example, on a joist in a dwelling house, in
Vällingby and the analysis is performed with the program FEM-Design Plate.
The study was made by calculations of the main tension that then were
compared to the tensile strength of the concrete.
The calculation result showed that the connection in the side of the hollow
core concrete elements decrease the deformation and increase the load-bearing
capacity, but it also shows that cracks appear in inward corners just next to the support. How these cracks influences the hollow core concrete elements are not analyzed in this report. (Less)
