Abstract
Foodstuff leads too pollution of the environmental and is also a big economic issue for the municipalities in Sweden. In my study I research how different foodstuff causes different emissions of greenhouse gases. My study shows that it differs a lot between different foodstuffs but it’s hard to say how much it differs though the study’s uses different methods. I also compare different action program that municipalities in Sweden have used to decrease the wastage from foodstuff in schools and preschools. In my study I research how different foodstuff causes different emissions of greenhouse gases. My study shows that it differs a lot between different foodstuffs but it’s hard to say how much it differs though the study’s uses different methods. I also compare different action program that municipalities in Sweden have used to decrease the wastage from foodstuff in schools and preschools. I find many examples of action program in the literature but I find a lack of results from measuring and detailed descriptions of the methods they were using. I also try to implementing three of the actions I find in my study in schools and preschools in Svedala municipality too see how effective they can reduce the wastage from foodstuff. My results from weighing of the difference in wastage from foodstuff after I have implementing my three action programs is too do an poll with the students followed by an information campaign, the last action I tried was too show the students how much food they throw did not give as good results. I also weigh the foodstuff for seven schools, three preschools and two geriatric cares in Svedala municipality. With the result from the weighing I calculated on how much the wastage from foodstuff costs for the municipalities. My result shows that the wastage from foodstuff costs up to one million skr a year, though the cost is probably lower this because it is hard to count the exact cost because I couldn’t separate the different ingredients in the dishes that is necessary too count the real cost of the wastage. From the results of the weighing I also located where in the activity the biggest wastage is. From this I come up to that the biggest wastage is from serving of the food and from the food the students throw away.
I also compared if there was a difference between how big the wastage is between kitchens that prepares their own food and the school that receive its food. My study shows that the wastage is bigger in kitchens that receive their food than kitchens that prepares the food by them self. Though it is hard to say if this is because of the type of kitchen or because another factor because I only had one kitchen in my study that is an kitchen that receives its food . I also compared if there is a difference in how much food the students throws away if the students eat the food in their classrooms or in an canteen. My study shows a lower amount throwed away food by students in the preschool that serves the food in the classrooms. Though there is no big difference in the total amount wastage of foodstuff between the two types of serving which infers that the wastage only transfers too another part of the activity. (Less)
