- Abstract
- In this study the Swedish democratization process is being examined with the help of three modern democratization theories. In order to find out which modern theory best can be applied to the Swedish case two Swedish books, covering the time of interest are being examined. The two books are standard works used as political-historical course literature at Swedish universities. Results show that none of the three theories can by itself fully explain the Swedish democratization. In the end of the paper this leads to a critical discussion about these more modern approaches to this type of events. On the contrary, they do seem to provide us with a consistent picture of the historical events that led to the breakthrough of parliamentarism, and the first Swedish general election. (Less)
