Abstract
This interview study is about applying a sustainability perspective on organizational change with focus on gender and gender equality questions. With the city of Malmö’s work with gender mainstreaming as an example, I have drawn conclusions about how sustainability can be created. I am using institutional ethnography as my method and I have conducted interviews with eight employees at Malmö’s city office and one of the city’s departments. With the city of Malmö’s work with gender mainstreaming as an example, I have drawn conclusions about how sustainability can be created. I am using institutional ethnography as my method and I have conducted interviews with eight employees at Malmö’s city office and one of the city’s departments. My results show that there are both risks and possibilities for sustainability to be created in relation to Malmö’s work with gender mainstreaming. In order to create sustainability it is important not to see women as the solution to the problems and make them the bearer of the change and to take a collective responsibility for the work that needs to be done. When working with gender mainstreaming, it is also important to include other perspectives than gender and supporting functions in the organization play an important role when creating sustainability.
