- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to examine how Swedish befrienders explain their relationship with befriendees who has interventions by the law of LSS, and how this can be understood in relation to the concept of friendship and professionality. This study was based on semi-structural interviews in which seven different befrienders participated. Two main themes were discussed: friendship and professionality, and also the two subcategories: difficulties and possibilities. To analyze our findings we used Erving Goffmans dramaturgical perspective and the two concepts “friendship” and “professionality”. - The aim of this study was to examine how Swedish befrienders explain their relationship with befriendees who has interventions by the law of LSS, and how this can be understood in relation to the concept of friendship and professionality. The analyze revealed that the befrienders had some difficulties to characterize their relationship with the befriendees due to that the assignment was supposed to be a friendship but at the same time they felt that there was some features of professionality in the assignment. They felt that there was a great deal of complexity in the role as a befriender and some of them even had a hard time to draw the line between the personal and the private area. Even though they felt that it sometimes was a struggle they found the assignment to be very rewarding, both for themselves and the befriendees. Finally the befrienders pointed out that it’s crucial that all the components is being well consorted in order for it to be a successful relationship.
