Abstract
In January 2011, Marine Le Pen was elected the new president of the French right populist political party Front National (“National Front”), a role she took over from her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who had been the president since the creation of the party in 1972. To deal with the somewhat dubious past of Front National, and in order to make it more commonly accepted in the political sphere, Marine Le Pen shouldered the challenge of the party’s so called “dediabolisation”.
The aim of this paper is to examine if Marine Le Pen’s political discourse has changed in comparison to that of Jean-Marie Le Pen, more precisely, to examine the differences and the similarities that may exist. By a discourse analysis of Jean-Marie Le Pen’s speeches... (More)

The aim of this paper is to examine if Marine Le Pen’s political discourse has changed in comparison to that of Jean-Marie Le Pen, more precisely, to examine the differences and the similarities that may exist. By a discourse analysis of Jean-Marie Le Pen’s speeches during the presidential elections in 2007 and the speeches of Marine Le Pen during the same type of elections in 2012, the results showed that, even though the main focus somewhat is changed, the same themes are mentioned, and they propose the same measures to deal with that they consider to be the problems in French society of today.
