Ultra-sonic dishwasher

Abstract
People’s eating habits and how
we use the kitchen today has
changed extensively over the
last few decades. New ways of
living and cooking generates a
need of rethinking the kitchen
and the appliances to better
fit the demands and desires of
modern living.
This concept helps the user include
the dishes as an easier
part of cooking, and an encouragement to rediscover the
health and pleasure of providing
one’s own meals.
The project is focused on kitchens
for smaller apartments -
where there is limited space in
the kitchen. First impression of
this dishwasher is easily recognized. It is under the casing
where most of the improvements

This concept helps the user include
the dishes as an easier

The project is focused on kitchens

laboratory engineer at the University of Lund, food technology. The cleaning process with
ultra-sonic was tested, and
revealed several advantages
compared to today’s table top
dishwashers. The technology
uses high frequency sound
waves (from 20–400 kHz) to
agitate the water that is filled
inside the machine. Cavitation
bubbles induced by the agitation
remove the dirt from the
dishes. The process lasted for
5 minutes and gave a complete
and clean result. The amount
of energy used was calculated
to be less per each washing cycle
than compared to a regular
washing machine.
Cleaning dishes is a burden
that has to be dealt with before
getting on with other agendas.
People may consider other alternatives
to cooking their own
food in order to get away from
the cleaning process. Even before
starting to prepare a meal,
one could think “is this even
worth the effort, I will have to
clean up after cooking?”
This dishwasher can easily be
placed in a smaller kitchen and
provide the user with a convenient and efficient way of
dealing with dishes. (Less)
