- Effective and rapid solutions are something that all companies in the construction industry increasingly strive for. Therefore, there is talk of industrialized building, which aims at an efficient process from the design phase, to the product completion. One reason why effective and quick solutions are sought is because of competition between firms within the industry. A construction company with a large width has difficulties to compete with specialist firms who are very talented in a certain area.

Therefore, there is talk of industrialized building, which aims at an efficient process from the design phase, to the product completion. One reason why effective and quick solutions are sought is because of competition between firms within the industry. A construction company with a large width has difficulties to compete with specialist firms who are very talented in a certain area.
The purpose of the project is to streamline the design stage in the construction of industrial buildings by creating a parametric BIM model which is controlled via a calculation sheet. The calculation sheet will calculate dimensions and quantities, automatically, depending on the parameters entered for an industrial hall. This information will then be exported to a 3D model which is adapted to the parameters.
To achieve this efficiency, programs like Tekla Structures and Microsoft Excel and Word are to be used. The goal is that the integration between the programs is as automated as possible and few measures are needed to export the information.
It is important as a designer in early planning phase to possess knowledge of prefabricated elements, and that they are appropriate to the solutions of the structural system selected. The disadvantages might otherwise be that the elements may be special made to conform to the design, which can lead to high costs when bidding for the hall to be submitted.
The conclusion from this study is that the reason why the efficiency of the planning phase for industrial halls occurs is because of the time savings. By creating a tool that quickly generates dimensions, quantifying listings as well as 3D models that contain information, a company has a substantial lead over competitors when the tender is submitted.
