Abstract
It is not well acknowledged that caregivers suffer from work related violence. Previous research indicates that caregivers are in a vulnerable position and at high risk of being exposed to violence. Our data has been analyzed using Bolman & Deal's symbolic framework and also discourse theory. The result of the study indicated that violence is common in nursing homes, however, the caregivers do not view these acts as violent. The study shows how caregivers talk about violence in a... The result of the study indicated that violence is common in nursing homes, however, the caregivers do not view these acts as violent. The study shows how caregivers talk about violence in a particular way which denies the violent acts. One reason is because of the dementia illness of the elderly and another reason is that the caregivers think that some violence is a part of their work as caregivers. (Less)
