Abstract
The purpose of this study was to understand the type of disciplining and normalizing that includes in the two measures the Development Guarantee and the Employment Guarantee for youth. This study is based on a qualitative content analysis with inspiration from hermeneutics where discipline and normalizing represent the theoretical starting points.  Five assessments from governmental agencies regarding these measures have been reviewed, analyzed and interpreted from selected theoretical premises. The conclusion of the study shows that the type of discipline which is most noticeable is sanctions in terms of correction through a regulatory system, instructions or commands. Discipline in the form of rewards has only been found occasionally.... (More)

Discipline in the form of rewards has only been found occasionally. The study also demonstrates that the Development Guarantee and the Employment Guarantee for youth can be understood as a process of normalization where the measures serve to make the abnormal normal in order to fit in and conform to society's structure. This is achieved through additional resources, influencing factors and child rearing and is made legitimate through a framework of rules, instructions and corrections. Within the framework of the study it is made clear that disciplining and normalizing can and should be understood in its entirety. (Less)
