Damernas diskussionsklubb.
(2015) HISK01 20151History
- Abstract
- This essay discusses norms surrounding the heterosexual relationship and the female gender roles that take shape in the Swedish women's magazine Idun from 1923-1929. How the ideal relationship and female gender roles are constructed is therefore a central theme. The source material is Idun’s debate column called "Damernas diskussionsklubb" (the Ladies’ debating club) that was launched in 1923. In order to approach the material, I have turned to queer theory as developed by Judith Butler and the gender theory presented by Joan W. Scott. One of my main points is that female gender roles are constructed mainly through one or two countertypes.
