Abstract
Sensemaking internal communication - How social workers experience sensemaking and identity construction based on internal communication of leaders and how this is perceived to affect their working climate

It is important to study co-workers as active subjects and understand how they make sense and construct their identities from their understanding of internal communication of leaders. And to understand how co-workers experience that this process affects the working climate since research shows a connection between communication and organisational goal fulfilment as leaders can contribute to a positive climate. In a bureaucracy, communication consists of primarily work-related downward information, which is an old view on how... (More)

And to understand how co-workers experience that this process affects the working climate since research shows a connection between communication and organisational goal fulfilment as leaders can contribute to a positive climate. In a bureaucracy, communication consists of primarily work-related downward information, which is an old view on how communication should look. Social workers have been interviewed at social service centres and the results is an example of when internal communication of leaders is under criticism from co-workers, though they understand that it’s hard for managers to work towards dialog in a bureaucracy. The social workers experience that internal communication without dialog is harmful, for the organisation and their own health. This could lead to rebellious tendencies in order to protect the client. (Less)

(More)

(Less)
