Abstract
This paper explores the ability of gentrification in Bilbao and the neighbourhood La Vieja. This paper also examines the relationship between regeneration strategies and economic, social, historical and political restructurings. To do that, has the paper tried to analyse the causes of why La Vieja was gentrified, based on a case study. The results both include the positive effect and the negative effect of the gentrification in La Vieja and its effect on the creation of the new Bilbao. Finally, the paper discuss the consequences of the local government decision which made it possible for La Vieja to be a candidate for a potential gentrified neighbourhood.
