(2016) PSPT02 20152Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- This study investigated how jointly attending to a story with an adult influenced children’s ability to take another person’s perspective. Eye movements of children 3-4 years old were studied while they watched a false belief (FB)-movie. In the movie an airplane moves when the protagonist is absent, hence the protagonist gets a FB. Differences between children who watched the movie jointly attending with an adult (looking-together) compared to children who watched the movie while the adult was present but not watching the movie (looking-alone) was investigated with respect to likelihood of answering a FB-question correct. The study further compared the children’s memory for the movie plot as well as eye movements while watching the film... (More)

The study further compared the children’s memory for the movie plot as well as eye movements while watching the film and when answering the FB-question. The results showed that the looking-together group and children who had a correct FB-answer had more fixations on the parts of the movie that represented the move of the airplane compared to the looking-alone group and children who had an incorrect FB-answer. The primary conclusion is that jointly attending with someone affects the children’s encoding of the airplane-move which seems critical to answer the FB-question correctly. (Less)
