- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to investigate whether simple hand calculation methods are useful complements to CFD-simulations while calculating the temperature and height of the hot gas layer for transient fires. The analysis is based on evaluations of results from experiments, CFD-simulations and hand calculation methods. The room used corresponds to a 1/4th scale ISO 9705 room. The results show that hand calculation methods can be useful tools for calculations on transient fires. However, the results strongly depend on how the methods are used and how the parameters included are handled. The heat transfer coefficient was identified as a very important parameter. It is also difficult to predict, especially for walls consisting of several... (More)

However, the results strongly depend on how the methods are used and how the parameters included are handled. The heat transfer coefficient was identified as a very important parameter. It is also difficult to predict, especially for walls consisting of several different materials. An alternative method for predicting the heat transfer coefficient for such walls is presented in this report. (Less)
