An idea to replace metal foil with a printed pattern of metal paste (metal powder mixed with solvent and binder) and incorporate this into current production was born.

An idea to replace metal foil with a printed pattern of metal paste (metal powder mixed with solvent and binder) and incorporate this into current production was born.
Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to survey currently available printing methods that could satisfy specified requirements, as well as analyzing different possibilities and problems that these methods provide in an industrial setting.
Methods: For phase 1, Printing - A Market Survey the project uses a subset of methods described in Produktutveckling – Konstruktion och design . For the second phase a method specialized for this purpose has been designed.
Conclusions: The study resulted in a 3-step solution on how to move forward with this project, including recommendations for what printing method and products are preferable.
The recommended method from this master thesis' perspective is R2R (Roll to roll) Stop and go. Before moving forward a broader strategic perspective need to be taken to decide whether to change production strategy completely.
Recommended steps moving forward:
1. Decide if a sheet printing or a R2R method is preferable.
2. Implement an off-line printing process and solve problems such as drying, material handling etc.
3. Move the printing process in-line. (Less)
