Abstract
This paper looks into the practices of climate change adaptation and stormwater management in Malmö. The study investigates current work with climate change adaptation in Malmö and looks into the project Ekostaden Augustenborg (Eco-City Augustenborg), a project in one Malmö’s urban districts carried out in the late 1990s. The project included the construction of an extensive new stormwater management system, where stromwater is collected in canals, ditches and ponds, before reaching the traditional closed stormwater system. It also included developing green roofs on many of the buildings in the area, to help minimize stormwater runoff. Malmö is currently implementing planning practices that include unconventional stormwater management, as green and blue infrastructure and stormwater systems above ground. There are a lot of differences between the project Ekostaden Augustenborg and the current practices of climate change adaptation and stormawater management in Malmö today. (Less)
