- Abstract
- The regional planning in Sweden has repeatedly been investigated since the mid-1900s to examine whether it is possible or not to solve the problem of regional imbalance. The needs of the citizens and the business sector change more rapidly than the administrative borderlines, which forces the organization to expand outside their existing counties.
The Swedish government announced a committee with the responsibility to propose fewer and larger counties and county councils in order to create a new regional division. The proposed division would provide more equivalent and powerful regions and to be brought lasting benefits with a better adaptation to the demographic and the economic geography.

The Swedish government announced a committee with the responsibility to propose fewer and larger counties and county councils in order to create a new regional division. The proposed division would provide more equivalent and powerful regions and to be brought lasting benefits with a better adaptation to the demographic and the economic geography.
The work aims to study the impact of a new regional division of one of those six regions, Skåne-Blekinge, linked to the theory of growth poles and central-place theory. The analysis is seeking to answer what the regional implications it has for the region's population, labor and industry. The implementations of the study is to critically review both the current investigation and previous investigations to study the guiding principles of the merging with the aim to compare those to the expected effects. The conclusion suggest that the problem is in fact not a problem due to the lack of function, as the region has rather good cooperation and has overcome administrative problems. (Less)
