- Abstract
- with the concept of self- determination, how they describe methods they work with and how this can be understood by theories of power. The study was conducted through interviews
with eight different personnel from five different group homes, all of them working with
individuals with intellectual disabilities. The analysis was based on theories of power –
relational power, different ways power can be disguised and pastoral power. The analysis
shows that the personnel associate self-determination with ability to understand consequences
of ones decision. The personnel describes that the service-user at the group home where they
work have self-determination, but that they sometimes need to limit it due to reason of care
