However, the author believes there to be examples that doesn’t show the authorities from such a shameful angle.
By analyzing five autobiographies written by people with a background in sub-stance abuse, and finding examples of benevolent care towards drug users, the author aims to draw closer to understanding what benevolent care really is.
The findings in the study is that benevolent care can be present in every meeting with a substance misuser. It depends on how you interpret the needs of and the situation in which the client currently is residing. One meeting can call for a tough but fair wake up call for the client, another context needs the practitioner to be kind, caring and soot-hing.
There are as many possibilities to give good care as there are meetings. We have to be attentive enough to realize when the time is right for support or confrontation, and we need to have a broad range of communicative tools with which we can ensure that benevolent care really is given. (Less)
