In recent year, many countries have achieved the economic growth to different extent all over the world, but more problems were emerged along with the process of development. The problem of income distribution has been raised and became a chronic concern for researchers and governments ever since. Not only the developing countries, but also the developed countries are suffering the inequality issue in different degrees. Inequality is not just a development side effect nowadays, which does hamper the economic growth and threaten the sustainability of growth. Inequality negatively influenced the growth as a result of generating imperfect financial markets, political instability and social unrest and so on. The study sets out to investigate what factors drive the inequality under the great economic development. Through qualitative approach and taking China as the case study, that accomplished the incredible economic growth and sharp inequality simultaneously. This study would break through theories like the Kuznets theory, and then apply theoretical framework to the empirical analysis. Two main factors were illustrated from traditional and modern angles respectively: structure transformation and institutional weakness. Based on all the analysis, the study would argue that the over emphasis on economic performance of China was the root to account for the rising inequality. (Less)
