- The purpose of this study is to examine the political debate about integration and so called ”simple jobs” in Sweden.A main point is also to examine how institutional racism is reproduced in the discourses that dominate the debate. The initial interest of the subject is the strong linkage between social integration and labour that often is taken for granted in the debate. The empirical material consists of policy documents from the Swedish parliament published between 2013 and 2016. The main find of the study is that two discourses are dominating the debate, one that describes refugees on one hand as a ”challenge” and on the other hand as a ”possibility” for Sweden and the Swedish society and one theme that makes a clear connection between paid labour and social integration. An important conclusion is that the discourses within the Swedish parliament interact with and shape one another and determinate what is possible to express about social integration. Another important conclusion is that the right wing party the Swedish Democrats have a huge influence on what is possible to say about social integration in Sweden and that this fact obscures the institutional racism among the other seven parties in the Swedish parliament.
