By applying an intersectional approach taking colour/race, class and gender into account, this case study investigates the link between insufficient provision of early childhood education and care and inequality in the case of Brazil. The results suggest that the main disadvantage in access to formal quality services is felt by households from social groups that are already facing disadvantages as regards level of educational completion and household income, and further, that such disadvantage relates to processes of stratification and polarisation.
