Forskningsfråga: Hur påverkas socialt kapital inom kluster av återkommande fysiska möten?
Metod: Med en abduktiv ansats utfördes en kvalitativ enfallsstudie inkluderande åtta respondentintervjuer. Även en informantintervju hölls för att ytterligare förstå olika kommunikationsformer. Därefter analyserades det empiriska materialet enligt den metod som förespråkas av Gioia.
Teoretiska perspektiv: Klusterdefinitionen som presenterades av Porter (1998) bygger på konkurrens och samarbete inom en region och ligger till grund för studiens teoretiska ramverk. Till studien har sedan socialt kapital, som lägger tyngdpunkt på hur kollektiv nytta skapas genom sociala relationer, adderats.
Empiri: Den här enfallsstudien baseras på klustret Mobile Heights. Klustret erbjuder kontaktskapande aktiviteter i form av fysiska mötesplatser för företag och organisationer som arbetar med uppkopplad teknik.
Resultat: När återkommande fysiska möten sker skapas en identifikation mellan individerna i ett kluster. Det leder till en ökad tillit vilket sedan leder till ett stärkt nätverk. Den här studien har definierat vad som menas med möten och explicit fått fram att det är fysiska möten som leder till ett starkt socialt kapital. Vidare är det spontana fysiska möten som har visat sig vara av störst betydelse för socialt kapital. (Less) - Abstract

One informant interview was added to gain further knowledge in different forms of communication. The empirical material was then analysed based on a method advocated by Gioia.
Theoretical perspectives: The cluster definition that was presented by Porter (1998) is based on competition and cooperation within a specific geographic concentration. It is the underlying theory of the theoretical framework of this thesis. Social capital, which focuses on how social relations create mutual benefits, was also added.
Empirical foundation: This single case study is based on the cluster Mobile Heights. The cluster is an organisation for businesses and organisations working with connected technologies. The cluster provides physical networking activities.
Results: Identification between two individuals within a cluster is enhanced through repeated physical contact. This leads to an increased trust that strengthens the network. This study has defined meetings in the sense of social capital within cluster as physical contact. Further, it is spontaneous physical contact that affects social capital the most. (Less)
