Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to describe and analyze the development of the agriculture in the county of Skåne (Scania) and to see if there are explanations to be found why the agricultural land is exploited today. By theories from human ecology I discuss the interconnections between human, nature and society both in a historical and a present perspective. Focus is on how the landscape, humans and the economic systems are shaped by each other. The interdisciplinary approach offers a wider and deeper look on the issue. I am wondering if there are solutions to be found within the present economic system, or do we have to think outside the box to find solutions for the future. Can the law of thermodynamics put questions regarding growth,... (More)

I am wondering if there are solutions to be found within the present economic system, or do we have to think outside the box to find solutions for the future. Can the law of thermodynamics put questions regarding growth, sustainability and environmental justice into a new light? We seem to forget the fact that the ecosystem is the main system and the economic system is just a subsystem depending on it. My hypothesis is that there are alternative means to form a sustainable food strategy in the county of Skåne (Scania). The relation between land and man has been damaged and that affects our food systems. But there are ways in reconnecting the people of Skåne (Scania) to land and nature again. One of these strategies is urban gardening. Another one is supporting small scale farming. A third one is educating people in sustainable agriculture. Six interviews with people that have different relations to agriculture give a broad perspective on the issue. I have interviewed these who follow: four young persons living in the city, a 30-year old couple which works full-time both as farmers and as journalists, and further, one experienced farmer, Karin Jansson, which educate and inspire people to grow their own food. Their answers both illustrate and confirm the situation today. But they also offer a glimpse of the future. (Less)
