- Abstract
- This study investigates how children’s books in Sweden deal with the topic of death and how it relates to research and established theories on children’s development and their grieving process. Based on a qualitative text analysis of 20 books five themes were identified: “clarity and euphemisms of death”, “the afterlife”, “boys and girls different expressions of grief”, “funeral as an instruction or an exception” and “bandage for the wounds”. The result show that the majority of children's books at many levels are consistent with the research and theories available about child development and the process of mourning.
