Abstract
In these days, more and more parents are driving their children to and from school. Road safety has deteriorated in the school’s drop off zones due to the big overload of parents driving their children. The overload of cars causes a lack of space, which means that parking and drop off do not happen legally but in places that are inappropriate which increases problem increases the risk of accident significantly. The increase in driving children to school does not only cause a more dangerous traffic environment, but also adversely affects both health and everyday life. Although many of the children have a distance of about two kilometers to school, car driving is still a significant choice of travel. The reasons for this vary from person to person, but some consider it far out of school, others consider it insecure to let the children go or cycle themselves, while some third think the school is on their way to work. This behavior in parents is difficult to change, but the fact remains that many problems would cease if those who had less than two kilometers to their school stopped driving. The project examines Västervångskolan in Landskrona and Toftaskolan in Ängelholm as the above mentioned problems occur at these schools. However, as mentioned above, parent’s behavior is considered too difficult to change, which has led to other types of strategies to be used in the project. The project aims to work with the children's mindset, but also examining how other municipalities have worked to solve the problems with car traffic at schools. In order for any major change to take place, it takes a lot of time and effort from both municipalities and schools. One must consider measures that solve the long-term problems, which is difficult in many cases. (Less)
