- During the last two years there have been extensive changes in the Swedish migration policy within the current regulatory system. A necessity within the current system is to assess the credibility of the asylum seekers claims. This invites questions about truth and objectivity. The aim of this thesis is to examine the knowledge and belief system regarding objectivity and truth of the Swedish Migration Agency in its legal directions regarding the assessment of credibility and identity. - During the last two years there have been extensive changes in the Swedish migration policy within the current regulatory system. A necessity within the current system is to assess the credibility of the asylum seekers claims. This invites questions about truth and objectivity. The aim of this thesis is to examine the knowledge and belief system regarding objectivity and truth of the Swedish Migration Agency in its legal directions regarding the assessment of credibility and identity. By using critical discourse analysis and theoretical frameworks regarding objectivity, truth, migration and nationalism I conclude that discourses based on the assumptions of a universal truth and the possibility to find the truth by using objective examinations occur. However, the individual conditions of the asylum seeker might affect the possibility to find the universal truth. As discursive practice, the legal method and principles make modifications of the system more difficult. The assessment of credibility and identity is a part of the assessment of the right to asylum, which is one of the grounds for residency in Sweden. Therefore, the discourse of universal truth, possible to find by objective examinations, upholds the system of inclusion and exclusion, borders and the nation state. (Less)
