- Abstract
- In this thesis I examine how young transgender respondents in the survey, " Folkhälsoenkät
barn och unga i Skåne 2016 ” value their health and stress. A comparative quantitative
analysis of cisgender and transgender respondents demonstrate that the transgender
respondents, both binary and non binary, in general value their health less good than the
cisgender respondents. A statistic analysis within the transgroup proclaims that health and

was assigned female at birth is the group of respondents that value both health and stress the
worst. To explore how the stress and lack of well being can be understood in relation to social

norms of gender and gender identity, I combine the quantitative analysis with a qualitative
thematic analysis, using central concepts of transgender studies, queer theory and the
minority stress model as theoretical framework. The results indicates that cisnormativity,
gender binaries and environmental stigmatization affects transgender people’s self-image,
mental health and experience of school. Different groups among the transgender respondents
indicates to be affected differently by these norms. (Less)
