- Abstract
- This bachelor thesis aims to explain why the United Arab Emirates and Qatar invests so heavily in European football clubs. By doing a descriptive case study of these two countries my intentions are to illustrate this phenomenon. Hopefully this thesis can be the start of other studies regarding investments in European football clubs from countries outside Europe. Different kinds of modernization theories have been used to analyse and explain the selected countries investments.
By examining the countries’ visions for the future, UAE Vision 2021 and Qatar Vision 2030, the UAE owned Emirates and Etihad Airways, Qatar Investment Authority and City Football Group the investments can be explained as a way for the countries to promote themselves...
